History of the Clubs

action.jpgNetball has been played in areas of Ireland since the 1940s. Due to the increasing popularity of the sport amongst women, Club teams were formed in the early seventies to play in the Winter Womens League.

Currently, the sport is mainly played in the Dublin area.

Many of the netball Clubs in Dublin were established to provide school leavers with the opportunity to continue playing the sport outside of school.  Some of the Clubs have links with the school from which they originated.

Clubs and schools that are affiliated to Netball Ireland are entitled to enter into competitive events organised by us, such as the Schools League, Women's Winter League, Summer Mixed season, Winter Mixed Season and Cup Competition.

There are a variety of netball clubs in Dublin - many cater for both competitive and social players. Most of the Clubs in Dublin don't currently train and meet to play each week. Clubs that currently train are St Annes, UCD and Trinity.

On the left, we have listed all the Women's Winter League Netball Ireland affiliated Clubs and all are based in Dublin.
